Cookbooks That Will Get You Through Veganuary

Despite living in the Internet age, cookbooks remain a much-loved way for people to learn new recipes and cooking tips. You can't beat flicking through a good cookbook. And fortunately, due to the rise of veganism, the vegan cookbooks have experienced a rise, too. There’s such a diverse range of books available, from one-pot creations to veganized international dishes - so let’s dive right in!

Popular Vegan Influencers

Influencers do a superb job at spreading the vegan message via their social media accounts. They show people how plant-based eating is accessible, affordable, and enjoyable. If you've been following the vegan scene for some time, you may have heard names such as Brett Cobley, BOSH, and Gaz Oakley already. But did you know that they have their very own cookbooks?

Easy & Quick

Are you someone that feels far too busy to be spending 2-4 hours a day in the kitchen whipping up complicated (but delicious) vegan meals? Well, there's no need to worry because there are more than enough plant-based recipes to get you through Veganuary that you can cook in batches, or can be whipped up within 20 minutes. Sometimes all you need for dinner is a sumptuous yet straightforward bowl of pasta that takes less than an hour to cook, and that's totally okay!

If you commute to work, then Vegan On The Go will be a great cookbook for you, or if you want some inspiration for weekly family meals, then One-Pot Vegan might be your best bet. There's even a vegan cookbook for meals that can be cooked within 15 minutes

International Cuisine

One of the most wonderful parts of veganism is exploring cuisines worldwide and discovering how vegan-friendly their dishes are. You might be surprised at what you find!

  • Italian cuisine isn't necessarily known for its vegan dishes; however, many dishes are easily veganized, such as bruschetta, pizza, and carbonara.
  • Spanish food is all about making the most of the local produce. It's the perfect cuisine if you're creating a spread for multiple people because tapas is comprised of lots of little dishes.
  • From curries, naan breads and rotis, to spicy vegetables side dishes and fried goods, Indian cuisine is brilliant for vegans and vegetarians alike. Many Indian dishes are already vegan, but can easily be veganized if not.
  • You will find Plant-based dishes in abundance in Middle Eastern cooking. Countries like Morocco, Egypt, and Iran have perfected making grains, pulses, nuts, and vegetables taste as flavourful and delicious as possible.
  • Although veganism is not popular in Mexico, that doesn't mean that their dishes can't be easily veganized. Thanks to dairy-free cheese and meat alternatives, it's more plausible than ever before to make spicy, authentic Mexican dishes without animal products.

Affordable

People sometimes get the impression that veganism is expensive, but it doesn't have to be. Plants are among the cheapest ingredients that you can purchase. Just because you're a busy University student, that doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to have the privilege of joining in with Veganuary. I'm sure that you know of many easy meals that are already vegan, for example, beans on toast, tomato soup, and stir-fried rice.

Here are a couple of cookbooks for University students, or anyone who would like to save some money this Veganuary:

Rich In Protein

Don't go thinking that it's difficult to get protein on a vegan diet, because it's not! If you're consuming enough calories, then you're consuming enough protein, too. It's unnecessary to keep track of your protein intake unless you're trying to build significant muscle mass. If this is the case, then there are vegan cookbooks to advise you along the way. A diet high in plant-based protein will likely contain lots of beans, some seitan, and high-protein vegetables.
